The fans are crazy, having packed out the small gymnasium area for the UWA Heavyweight Championship match-up. It was 'The Unbeatable' Mr. Black who was the first man in the industry to ever go undefeated for over a year. This match would mark 1 year and 8 months and if heavily favored him. His opponent was a 6'4, 245 pound rookie by the name of Alfred Starr, liked to call himself 'The Maverick'. The match had been going on for nearly 30 minutes now, with Mr. Black dominating most of it, putting quite a beating on Alfred. The fans were sick of Mr. Black being the champion, always winning because he was bigger, they were ready for a new show, and everyone had heard stories that someone might finally be on there way that could do the trick. We now move over to the in-ring action, Alfred Starr quickly ducks underneath the clothesline coming from his opponent. The opponent being much bigger standing at 6'5 and weighing nearly 500 pounds, Mr. Black. The match had been grueling to say the least but Alfred Starr had finally gotten the upperhand. He fired away with left hand punches one after another connecting with the face of Mr. Black with each one. Mr. Black then lashed out at him, being angered by the hits and Starr was able to duck down and pull the top rope causing Black to fall over it. Black laid there for a few seconds, then got to his feet, Starr waiting for him in the ring giving him a "come on!" taunt waving his hands toward himself as he says it. Black slowly gets to his feet and then places on knee up before pulling the rest of himself up to the apron and is immediately grabbed DDT style through the middle and top rope by Alfred Starr. Starr then takes steps back, still holding Mr. Black DDT-style causing his body to drag along the ropes, and suspending him a couple feet above the ring, with his feet hung up on the ropes. Alfred Starr then lets out a mighty yell as he drops down completing the rope hung DDT and the crowd goes crazy. Can the 'undefeatable' Mr. Black finally be beaten by the rookie Alfred Starr? The announcers getting just as into the match as the fans were. Alfred squats down low, sizing up his opponent possibly looking for the finish right here. Mr. Black slowly gets to his feet, shaking his head trying to clear the fogginess of the high impact on his head, then as he starts to go from a kneeling position to a standing, Starr strikes leaping up and hooking his left arm around the head of Mr. Black and his right arm moving up to the side of the head closest to his body to hold the head in place. The pictures in the audience flash and the fans go crazy as it seems like time and space stood still. Alfred took it all in as he sailed in what seemed like slow motion, knowing he was about to hit his Finisher Starstruck (RKO) and hold his first Championship. His body finally started to begin it's decline back down to the mat, Mr. Blacks' head firmly secured between his hands and then his mind flashed back to his childhood.
The setting is now different; Alfred is much younger, maybe 12 years old and he is sitting in his living room eating dinner and watching the television with his mother. There are a couple mirrors on the wall and pictures all around the room, then a older looking t.v. on a stand. They had a sectional couch that took up the far wall and part of another and a coffee table in front of it. Just then, the front door swings open, slamming against the wall, the door handle chipping away a piece of plaster where the wall had been hit before. In walked a man who appeared to be in his late 30s or early 40s and he was holding a beer bottle in one hand, his eyes clearly glazed over and his face showed anger.
"What did I tell you about staying up all night, Samantha?! And the boy too?!" he shouted at the woman, taking a couple steps towards her.
"Take it easy Robert, it's only 8:30." She tried to protest but he just kept on as he grabbed her by the wrist and jerked her up off the couch.
"Don't you talk back to me, Sam-ntha. This is my household and we'll abide by MY rulesh." He said, his words slurring a little as he speaks. "Now, like I said put the boy to bed. It'sh Late!" He then threw her arm down and turned away, taking a swig from his bottle.
"Robert, c'mon... They still have an hour ti-.." her words are cut off when a vicious backhand catches her cheek, causing her head to completely turn to the right and her body to stumble back, falling onto the couch. Out of instinct, Alfred stood up and pushed his dad back with both arms, causing him to stumble a little, probably more due to the alcohol than anything else.
"Don't you hit her!" Alfred said with all his might, and the day looked down at his stomach where Alfred's hands had hit and then back at him and let out an amused little chuckle.
"Did you just put your little hands on me? Don't you know you're not supposed to talk back to your parents?!" he then clinches his hand into a fist and reels back, only to have Samantha grab his arm at the wrist.
"You won't lay a damn finger on that boy!" She said and then he turned to her, all amusement gone from his face. He then tugged his arm free from her grasp and used the same arm to shove her in the chest, knocking her back over the arm rest of the couch and onto the floor. She had tears in her eyes when she sat up and the dad leaned in to the boy's face.
"I'll do what I want, because this is my house. And there's nothing you can do about it." He then slapped Alfred on side of the head, nearly knocking the boy off the couch. "You think you're tough, huh? Little tough guy?" He then slapped Alfred again. "You're never gonna be anything boy, so just go cry in your room." He then turned back to Samantha and spit in her direction before heading off down the hallway, taking a swig from his bottle. Samantha quickly rushed to Alfred and hugged her arms tight around him and pulled him close letting him know that he means the world and everything will be okay. She dried his tears and pulled his head back to look into his eyes and told him that she loved him then went back to hugging him. He then snapped out of the memory and came back to reality.
Both men crash to the mat with a thud, Mr. Black landing face first into the mat, followed quickly by his body and Alfred Starr landing on his back. Starr then rolled the big body of Mr. Black over and got to his feet and looked around the arena taking it all in. Alfred then jumps up and roars, throwing up both arms as he walks over to the nearest turnbuckle. The crowd erupts behind him as Mr. Black lays there not moving a muscle. Alfred Starr then climbs to the top turnbuckle and turns to face the downed body of Mr. Black, he then let go of the top rope with his hands and stood to his full height, and then squatted for leverage. Alfred felt the fire flowing through his veins, and the victory at his fingertips as he sprung off the top rope, doing a backflip as he soared through the air, then as his body neared Mr. Black's to finish the Shooting Starr (Shooting Star Press) everything slowed down again and another memory sprung up in the back of his mind.
This time there is an entire audience of people in metal fold out chairs all along the gymnasium then at the very front of the crowd there is a stage. On the stage are a few men and women in business clothing and suits. The second one from the left was standing in front of a table with around 20 picture frames sitting on it and then at the back is a trophy. The trophy is about 2 feet tall and golden, with a man standing on top of a stage holding up a championship title belt. Then at the bottom there's a plaque that read "Outstanding Graduate '10". The man on the far left has a microphone and is reading off the names of the graduates from the Mid-Missouri Wrestling Association-Southern Illinois Conference Wrestling (MMWA-SICW) academy. Samantha Starr can be seen in the front row of the audience with a smile on her face and a camera sitting in her lap, her beautiful blue eyes gleaming in the light and her gorgeous brown hair curled down her back and a few strands hanging beside her neck in the front. The names are all called and the frames start to dwindle, after about 45 minutes of names being called we are down to one more frame. Samantha's face fills with excitement as the man with the microphone reads off.
"And the final graduate for the Mid-Missouri Wrestling Association-Souther Illinois Conference Wrestling academy is, Alfred Starr." The man steps back applauding along with the rest of the crowd, and Samantha begins clapping and then lifts up her camera and aims it, then the man brings the microphone back to his mouth. "We'd also like to award Mr. Starr with this years "Outstanding Graduate" award. This award is given to the student who shows the greatest ambition to succeeds as well as excelling at the overall skill of wrestling in terms of endurance, speaking skills, in-ring skills, and first and foremost, safety. Congratulations on gaining such an achievement, Mr. Starr we believe that you will go on to do great things wherever you may end up."
Samantha can't help but stand up, applauding as tears of joy fill her eyes and the rest of the crowd joins her soon after. Alfred smiles and accepts the award, turning and holding it up as a photographer snaps a picture. He then holds the award in one hand and waves his mom to come up, and then she also takes a picture of him with the award, surrounded by the board of directors. He then steps down the stairs to his left, his mother meeting him there and she wraps her arms around his neck and whispers in his ear "I'm so proud of you, I knew you could do it!" and then the man with the microphone begins to say the closing statements as they hug and Alfred snaps back to reality once again.
Alfred lands the Shooting Starr, his body slamming down on the torso of Mr. Black. The impact causes Alfred to bounce nearly 2 feet off of Mr. Black and he lands a few feet away holding his gut. Mr. Black letting out a wheezing noise, the wind clearly being knocked out of him. The crowd goes completely crazy, practically blowing the roof off the building as Alfred quickly scurries on his hands and knees over to Mr. Black's body and he lays across it, pulling up Mr. Black's left leg with both of his arms and holding as the ref slides in beside them. The moment slows down yet again as Alfred nods his head along with the counts. The ref's hand comes down, smacking the mat as he and all the fans in the arena yell "ONE!" Alfred's head completing a nod. The ref's hand then raises up, Alfred's hand mimicking it and going up at the same exact time, then the ref brings it down slapping the mat with an open hand and yelling, along with the help of the crowd again "TWO!" The ref's hand then rises a third time and Alfred's eyes widen as he realizes what is about to happen, the picture of the UWA Heavyweight Championship filling his mind as he focuses in on the ref's hand. The ref's arm then begins it's descent towards the mat and Starr's conscious again falls back into the depths of his mind.
This time the scenario appears to be in a hospital room. There are a few monitors around the room, a television in the corner, a door on the far wall the lead to a bathroom, and a entry door from the hallway. In the center of the room was a typical hospital bed on hydraulics so that it could be adjusted and in that bed was a beautiful woman. She was under the blankets and didn't look like she was doing so well. Her brown hair was thinning, her lips appeared to be chapped, she was unhealthily thin, but there was something about her beautiful blue eyes that still showed life. She was just lying there, very still, breathing slowly when a familiar face walked in the room. Alfred Starr, wearing a suit and his hair combed all nice, and in his hand was a folder. "Mom! It finally happened! The UWA contacted me, and I just got done signing a contract. You're looking at UWA's newest superstar!" he said with an excited tone in his voice raising his arms as if he was already champion. A smile stretched across her lips as she raised an arm as if to ask for a hug.
He walked over to his other and hugged her, she threw an arm around his neck and pulled him close hugging him tightly. She then kissed him on the cheek and as he started to pull away she held him so that she could look him in the eye and whispered "I love you, Alfred. And I always believed in you." They both smiled and he whispered "I know ma. I love you too." and then he pulled away and started rambling on about the UWA and how he couldn't wait. She laid back against her pillow with a big smile on her face and let out a deep breath, then her heart tracker started to beep out of control. Alfred's eyes went wide as he quickly ran over to find his mom unconscious on the bed and began yelling for help as his eyes filled with tears. Nurses flooded the room and quickly went to work trying to figure out what was wrong, next thing he knew Alfred was being forced out of the room only being able to watch through the blinds through his teary eyes. Then he felt himself pulled out the memory and back to reality.
The ref's hand slammed against the mat and the crowd yelled along with him "THREE!" The bell immediately rang and Alfred's music began to play as he jumped up to his feet with his hands raised. The ring announcer announced him as the winner and the NEW UWA Heavyweight Champion and the ref delivered his title to him. For a moment he just stood there with eyes wide and held it out, staring at it. He then buried his head in the gold of the title, falling down to his knees as the crowd burst into cheers. The tears welled up in his eyes as he took it all in for a few moments then jumped up to his feet and rose the title high above his head with both arms declaring himself as the champ. He walked around the ring with the championship held high and finally after about 10 minutes of celebration he exited the ring and made his way down the ramp, the memory then fading to black as he came back to reality.
Alfred Starr climbed out of his car, grabbing his bag off the passenger seat as he did so. He headed towards an arena, wearing jeans and a t-shirt which on the front said "Randy Starr" and below the words had a blacked out picture in the shape of himself and then on the back it read "The Maverick". He eventually reached the sidewalk out in front of the building and set his bag down and unzipped it a little enough to reveal a picture frame. He opened the bag a little then looked up at the sign above the entrance doors that read "Real Wrestling Federation (RWF)" and then looked down at the opened bag. Through the open zipper you can see the picture in the frame, and it's a picture of his mother, Samantha. On the corner you can clearly see a little bit written in black sharpie that reads "I don't know why you're having me give YOU an autograph, ya little superstar, but I just want you to know I love you and I have always believed in you. Love, Mom" After reading it and re-reading it a couple times he reached up and wipes a tear away, nodding to himself and then bends down and zips up the bag. He then, picks up the bag by the handles and walks through the doors saying the words allowed "This is for you!" and disappears into the arena.
