Scene 1: Promo: RWF backstage
Matt Sydal walks backstage in a space outfit, he is stopped by cameramen Camera man 1: What’s with the outfit?
Matt Sydal:
A debut. A first night in the limelight, a chance to perform as many signature moves as possible without lacking psychology. This week I face a man known as Maverick. He’s clean cut and he’s a natural in the ring, something we both have in common. I’m Matt Sydal and I am one of the best wrestlers in the business today. I am fearless but never reckless with educated feet and sound ground technical skills. I can do it all but based off my opponent’s impressive albeit cliché stats I will have to rely on my speed, agility, durability and resilience and mix of striking, technical takedowns and innovative aerial moves. The power will not be in the grappling but in the superhuman ability I have that makes me unable to back down, unable to wave that white flag. I’m going to shake his hand and take him on a wild ride, embarking across the 20 by 20 battle zone and when he is dazed and confused I will take him down and ascend the 5ft 3 turnbuckle nearest and fly 15-25 feet in the air using my body as an air craft and connect my 5ft 8 and 165 pound frame into the carcass of the Maverick.
You see, I’m an aerial ass-kicker, a highflying hero and from ground 0 to the sky I will fly and soar cause there’s a settle to score and a mark to make. I’m Matt Sydal, Evan Bourne -- whatever the name doesn’t matter, the game that is brought matters and win or lose the fans in attendance will be rooting for me and remembering me as they drive home.
Scene 2: training: Tampa house. Background music:
Matt enters the ring inside the basement of his house in Tampa by sliding swiftly underneath the bottom rope then he runs the ropes side to side and back and forth, a forward tumble and an inverted tumble then forward with a headstand-kip up combo often used as a theatric in Japanese and Mexican wrestling, then he hurdles with a leap frog and he starts to take a front bump like Ric Flair and rises with a tumble like Willy Wonka. He next takes a back bump and rises with a kip up then executes a split. He next handsprings out to the outside apron then Asai moonsaults and sticks the landing on one of the gymnastics mats on the floor. He does a bridge into a head stand then executing handstand push ups then walking on his hands and pushing to his feet and does a three backflips, two front flips and a cartwheel-handspring defying gravity.
He next stands in front of the heavy bag and unleashes a series of round kicks then finally knocking the bag to the floor with a jumping spinning back kick.
Scene 3 promo practice
Matt takes a deep breath and stands in front of the mirror
Matt: Since Halloween of 2000 I’ve been in this crazy business. I’ve won, I’ve lost and I’ve made history. I’ve teamed with the best, I’ve beaten veterans and former world champions, staples of sports entertainment yet I’m still underrated and overlooked but I don’t care, it’s not because I’m lazy or unmotivated, I am dedicated in a different way, I’m not here for the cameras, for the fame, for the face on a magazine or a character in a video game. I was born to do this, I stepped into a real ring at 16 and it was like a second home. You can judge by my size and my life style choice even my promo skills lack of thereof and my teenage boy voice. The fact is I’m a young veteran I know every inch of a ring like the back of my hand, that’s the line in the sand, entertainer or wrestler? I’m a very entertaining wrestler and I will give it my all until I can’t do it anymore and that may sound cliché or trite but it’s true. Most of the talent in RWF is new and upcoming but already in their 30s, I’m 30 and I’ve been doing this since I was 17. It’s not a brag but a fact that I am one of if not the most tenured, flawless in ring competitors in the past decade and I don’t need a mic or a gimmick as a crutch but after a match with me you will need a crutch.
Matt cringes at the end and says“ That last sentence was so Sydal 2005”.
Flashback: the debuts fail:
Matt lays in his bed and places his book on quantum mechanics on the night stand and rests his hands behind his head remembering the greatest moments of his career:
Tagging with idol Rey Mysterio and being able to face him on Raw and in Japan at a house show. Winning the tag team championship with Kofi Kingston
Tagging with and getting support from John Cena.
But then the worst moments
Getting one upped by those who cannot wrestle as well as him Getting suspended All the injuries, although very minor
Then more great moments: Steamboat, Bret hart and Mick Foley saying nice things about him A fan base, family and friends who support him.
