Nathan woke up in a room with white walls. His head pounded from pain as he tried to recall what happened in the last few minutes. It took a few more seconds before he recollected everything that had happened which answered the question why he was in pain. He had been in a match with Hardcore Comley and he won.
Now that took a bit more to sink in. He won against the monster that was Hardcore Comley. He knew the odds were stacked against him with that one. He even felt despair when the monster laughed while being punished into a submission hold. He laughed!
As he looked back at it, he was down, beaten, and battered against a seemingly unstoppable force that was Hardcore Comley. But he prevailed. Oh how he prevailed!
Nathan Harris knew, he knew that it was all thanks to the fans. For their support and cheers that had powered him up to weave thru the storm of madness, pain, and suffering. It was all thanks to them that he, Nathan Harris, won his first ever match in the Real Wrestling Federation. He tried to stand up but the pain racked his body that he had difficulty. He eventually succeeded but was short of breath from the effort as though he ran a marathon.
A door on one side of the room opened and revealed the RWF Physician. “Oh? It was a good thing you are back on your feet Nathan. A few more minutes and we would brought you to the hospital.”
“How long was I out doc?” Nathan asked as he tried to work out the kinks in his muscles.
The physician looked at his watch, nodded, and started to examine Nathan. “You were out for at least thirty minutes. Beyond that would bring about complications.”
The physician wrote something on his clipboard and addressed Nathan once more. “Well, it seems that everything is in order. I would advise that you rest up till tomorrow. No strenuous tasks or you might risk muscle tearing.”
Nathan nodded at this and replied with a smile. “Okay doc. I’ll take it easy but no promises.”
The physician shook his head and walked out of the room. Nathan for his part stood on the floor with a bit of difficulty and tentatively tried to walk. Once he deduced that he can actually walk on his own two feet, Nathan proceeded to get out of the room.
He was not even a few feet away when another RWF Staff interrupted him. “Nathan you are wanted at the interview section with Cameron in five!”
Nathan Harris turned around with a grimace but nodded his head nonetheless before he soldiered on towards the appointed place.
It took him a while and a bit of effort, but Nathan Harris reached his destination. He was greeted by the sight of Cameron Miller in a black low-cut attire that revealed a significant amount of skin. She saw him and his state and her face lined with worry. Her eyes asked if he was okay in which he smiled and nodded his head.
Cameron’s reply was a weary smile she beckoned him over to start the interview.
“We are here backstage with none other than Nathan Harris! Winner of the Newcomer’s Match on the first ever PPV of the RWF! So Nathan how do you feel?” she asked in an upbeat tone that betrayed her emotions from before. The question worded with double meaning intended.
Nathan took a deep breath and smiled as he put his right arm over her shoulders with confidence that seemed to ooze out of his being which answered the un-asked question. “Well Cammy, it was a great match and suffice to say, a hell of a beat down.”
“So like, what was it like? Were you afraid of Comley? He was pretty into beating you up even after you won…” came the follow up question from Cameron.
Nathan paused as this as he recalled the event before he replied. “Honestly? I was scared. I was afraid and who would not be? You are up against a man, no, a monster who thrives on pain. Despair welled within me and I was about to give up.”
He paused and almost noticeably, his eyes took on a more serious glint. “But a much deeper fear overshadowed that. And that was the fear of failure. Of failing the fans of the promised victory. When I heard their chants, it invigorated me. Powered me up! But it died down when the monster that was Hardcore Comley refused to stay down. It brought me fear. Fear that I was about to be defeated. Fear that I was about to let down the crowd. So I manned-up, grit my teeth, pushed thru the storm and ultimately, succeeded.”
The appreciation of the said fans chorused and was very much audible in the backstage. It wouldn’t even be an exaggeration that it was felt in the whole RWF Arena. The chants of his name echoed and their acknowledgement roared.
Cameron was a bit shocked by the declaration. Her eyes took on a more calculating quality reminiscent of the actual intelligence that she possessed. It was almost unnoticeable and once more she was back to her usual persona. “Wow! That was like deep Nathan! So like what is your next goal?”
At this Nathan grinned his by now all-familiar-grin. He took the microphone from Cameron who seemed to have no problems with it. “That would be very simple Cammy…”
Nathan faced the camera and grinned. His eyes however were a different matter for they convey razor-edged seriousness and iron-clad determination. ”My eyes are set at the prize. And whoever wins that championship won’t matter, for it will soon have a change of ownership handed on a platter. So whomever that be, Alexander the Great who I sure hope is not second-rate. Or that snake-guy wanna be Sobek. Who’s ‘S’ has more sting than his swing.”
The cheers the echoed from the arena once more resounded. Nathan smiled at this. He basked at attention before he continued once more. “Seriously! We have a Legend, who fathered a nation from that bottomless balls of his on one hand… Aaannndd…” he trailed with that ever annoying grin on his face.
“And a snake! A vicious garter snake! Put both them in a cage and we’d end up in something like Walt Disney it is such a piece of cake. But watch-out for sugar-high, old-man Legend it’s for your sake. The balls may be rearin’ but yer back maybe breakin!”
The arena roared once again. Cameron for her part could not hide the smile on her face.
Nathan grinned and once again continued. “So Old-Man Legend and Solid Snake go and put on a show. Because once it’s all said and done I’ll bring the house down with that title in tow.”
Cheers rained all-through-out with chants of Nathan Harris’ name as the said man walked out of the camera with a wave to the smiling Cameron.
